The Société Générale Charitable Foundation and CARE signed a global partnership in February 2008, under which Société Générale Corporate & Investment Banking will grant CARE EUR 1m over a three-year period to support three educational projects in Peru, Mali and Bangladesh, selected by SG CIB staff.

This special relationship between CARE and SG CIB is strengthened by another partnership that enables SG CIB staff members to donate to the charity online. Founded in the United States in 1946 to provide relief to the survivors of World War II in Europe, CARE is a leading humanitarian organisation fighting global poverty. CARE's mission is to serve individuals and families in the poorest communities in the world. Drawing strength from its global diversity, resources and experience, it promotes innovative solutions and advocates global responsibility. CARE facilitates lasting change by:

• Strengthening capacity for self-help
• Providing economic opportunities
• Delivering relief in emergencies
• Influencing policy decisions at all levels
• Addressing discrimination in all its forms

Through the creation and support of local community-focused activities, the Société Générale Corporate & Investment Banking Citizenship Programme aims to mobilise staff around the theme of social inclusion via education in each SG CIB country.

Each local Citizenship Programme receives a specific budget and is coordinated by a local Ambassador with the support of the Citizenship Committee. These programmes provide financial support to a local charity selected by staff and encourage active staff participation. The initiative is also open to the Group's other entities present in the country. The Citizenship Programme helps reinforce relationships with the local populations in the countries in which SG CIB does business, thus enabling SG CIB to fulfil its commitment to society at large.

Each year, during the third week of June, Société Générale Corporate & Investment Banking offices around the world organise dedicated Citizenship events to raise staff awareness about their partner charities and support them through fundraising or volunteering initiatives.

Open to all Group entities locally, these initiatives are concentrated within a one-week timeframe in order to build momentum amongst staff and encourage a spirit of commitment.
