Paladin Energy Limited: Mandated Lead Arranger, Intercreditor Agent, Facilities Agent, Security Trustee $167,000,000 Project Financing of the Kayelekera Uranium Mine in Malawi
Société Générale Australia Branch acted as Mandated Lead Arranger for Paladin Energy Limited's $167,000,000 Project Financing of the Kayelekera Uranium Mine in Malawi. The transaction included an ECICSA tranche in which Standard Bank of South Africa and Nedbank Capital participated.
This is a groundbreaking emerging markets transaction for SG as the only project financing to ever be successfully executed in Malawi and builds on SG's reputation as the leading financier to the nuclear fuel industry globally.
Paladin was one of the original investments of SG's successful Mining Hybrid Fund that invests in junior mining explorers. Since then, the bank has acted as MLA for the Langer Heinrich Mine project financing in Namibia and now the Kayelekera Mine project financing in Malawi.
From SG's early support of this junior explorer, Paladin Energy is now a mid-tier uranium producer with two operating projects and a market capitalisation of $3.0bn.
Key roles undertaken by SG in relation to this transaction are:
Mandated Lead Arranger - SG Australia Branch
Due Diligence Bank (Technical, Legal, Political Risk Insurance) - SG Australia Branch
Intercreditor Agent - SG Australia Branch
Commercial Facilities Agent - SG London Branch
Security Trustee - SG London Branch
